About Me

I'm Wilton Springer (he/him) and I'm a mechanical engineer, designer, and maker. I'm from Jackson Hole, Wyoming and grew up hiking, biking, backpacking and skiing around the Teton range. My upbringing was largely influenced by my parents who were climbing rangers, ski patrollers, and naturalists.

After high school I went to Stanford University where I receive my bachelors and masters in mechanical engineering. I enjoyed most of my engineering classes but I really found my place in Stanford's Product Realization Lab(PRL). I worked in the PRL as a student, designing and making projects, and I became a course assistant in grad school and kept making projects while also helping students through their design and manufacturing process. My favorite projects are like those I worked on in the PRL, projects where I have a hand in every step of the process from initial ideation, sketching, and modeling, to prototyping, manufacturing, and execution.

I currently live back in Jackson Hole where apart from enjoying the outdoors, I currently have a few jobs. I work at Square One Systems, as a mechanical engineer, where I help design and build complex robotic positioning systems for national labs, the Air Force, and others. I also manage Wonder Institute's pubic maker spaces including a woodshop, silversmithing studio, sewing lab, and rapid prototyping space. Lastly, I also do other small design and fabrication projects on the side mostly for fun. My most recent creation was a mailbox for Jackson Hole Public Art's postcard campaign titled To Jackson Hole, With Love. you can see a picture of my mailbox at right (or below on mobile).

On a separate note, I've also been speaking up about current restrictions and safety features on Teton Pass. In the menu you'll see a link to my thoughts on much of the discussion around Teton Pass and on that page there's a button that will take you to the Opinion piece that was published in the Jackson Hole News and Guide.
